Excellent writing, and quite frightening. My boycott of CBS begins tonight after Stephen signs off for the last time on The Late Show. Keep fighting the good fight, Don. 💙
Colbert meant a lot to me and many others, Don. I'll cry for him if I want to (and I did, last night, and I'm sure I will tonight when he makes his final exit, and for a while down the road). I was heartbroken when David Letterman's Late Show ended, too, but at least HE ended it of his own volition. I hate what the corporate monsters did to Colbert. As Letterman said on Stephen's show at the end of last week, "Good night and good luck, motherf*****s."
…but those who have praised this piece of yours, which I just finished reading, are right. You described the larger problem extraordinarily well. What a sick, sad mess we are all in.
What a brilliant article!..Sad though 😢life is so short and Trumps Presidency is aging all of us taking a huge toll on most of the American people!😡..it’s really scary to think how many people will make it to the other side of this I just keep praying 🙏🏽 for all of us that REALLY didn’t want the criminal in charge and now we are in a Nightmare that’s not ending!!!
I am sad and angry for the fate of my children and grandchildren who will have to live with the consequences of this administration for many years to come after I am gone.
I have not viewed anything on CBS since the Ellisons bought the network and the Zionist Bari Weiss took it over . The only program worth watching on that channel was 60 minutes and Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley . And the fact Anderson Cooper left 60 minutes said even more . Whenever you truthful or funny and say anything against the Orange guy, your censored. So I want to support freedom of speech I really only get my news from Independent media. We the People will win this fight . Thanks Don for being a warrior who believes in telling the truth and not bending the knee
The wild wonderful world of late night TV was a form of classic television that has endured due to its brilliance and kept so many intelligent people going in a culture that was slowly pasteurizing itself; I am sorry to see it fade culturally and become only a memory for the current generation, may the Stephen Colbert(s) given to us, find away to keep their important work going. What has happened to Stephen and Don brings me grief and defies freedom of speech and impacts our creative life force - what has happened to CBS is tragic, they are lost morally, It is so hard to see. I agree with Don, that we are
witnessing something that has-to do with white men and power, and a propensity, that is no virtue, a propensity to lean into a corrosive system.
And when we are done doing homage, when we have passed our gratitude, correctly, to those who deserve it, please remember that, however difficult it may be, what happens next is truly up to us.
Good journalists being cancelled by legacy media is a blessing in disguise. We need the professional truth tellers to be independent. Since this administration took office and immediately started doing wicked things, I knew that it would be an organic process of their undoing...and it is happening. I'll just be glad when they're out of there.
I was fortunate to see Colbert’s show in person during T’s first term. It was an awesome experience. We met really interesting people in line that came from all over the country and world. The guest that night was Judd Apatow and Jon Batiste was still there in the band. Colbert was so kind and funny. I know he’ll move to somewhere better but what happened is so horrible and assault on the first amendment
Colbert is about build an enormously successful online presence. I wouldn’t be surprised if he made a podcast that ends up becoming one of the most viewed.
CBS will see a large drop in their already dismal ratings after tonight. These rich people who own the networks think they only have to please conservatives. Who only watch Fox anyway.
Agreed. We'll remember the names businesses that bent the knee against the wishes of customers just because standing up was hard. All of us are standing. We don't have backers. We can't even watch we want and what we can pay for with you know who's permission.
As long oligarchs cling to their gold at the cost of their souls and our patronage, this will be our new normal.
Well, patronage is all I have, so thanks for nothing, CBS, and good-bye. Good thing America's not in crisis or anything.

Same here - they will just cram it w BS!
Thank you Don. Beautifully written.

Can't help but think. you have paved the ways for others to do their thing, on their own. Cheers to Colbert. What's your favorite sandwich, Don?

Also if you like certain CBS or Paramount only shows, see if your library carries the DVDs. At least you’re helping the library and not cbs
